Boozy Banana Dole Whip- short pin2

Hi friends! I hope you had a wonderful Memorial weekend. Hopefully you were able to get outside and enjoy the summer sun.

About this boozy dole whip recipe

Have you guys ever had the Dole Whip from the Magic Kingdom at Disney? If you have, you know the Dole Whip is magically delicious.

And if you haven’t, well, don’t fret. The Dole Whip is simply a pineapple flavored soft serve. It’s incredibly tasty and highly addictive. But, I’ve always wondered why Disney doesn’t sell an adult version… I mean, if you have been to Disney, you know a touch of booze would be a welcome addition. It certainly would make waiting in line for over an hour for a ride a bit more bearable.

With the weather heating up, I figured now would be the perfect time to do the Dole Whip a solid and put an adult only spin on their famous and fabulous frozen treat.

What does a banana dole whip taste like?

This recipe for alcoholic Dole Whip isn’t simply a re-creation of the Disney treat with a boozy touch. Since I was already going to add alcohol, I figured why not also spruce it up with a bit more flavor while I was at it. So I decided banana and coconut should also be welcomed to the pineapple soft serve party. I also opted to soak the pineapple in brandy and grill it, because why the heck not? Summer is made for grilling.

Honestly, those additions were the best decision ever, because this boozy banana dole whip is a tropical paradise for your taste buds.

This dole whip is refreshing and a perfect mix of sweet, tangy and tart. Thick, creamy, smooth and boozy with notes of pineapple and banana and a subtle hint of coconut, this frozen treat is going to become your go-to delight and the best way cool off this summer.

Tips for the best alcoholic dole whip

  1. Pineapple: I highly recommend grilling the pineapple for this alcohol dole whip recipe, because it brings out the fruits natural sweetness. However, it is optional. If you would like to skip using the grill, simply soak the pineapple rings in brandy and disregard the grilling step all together.
  2. Coconut: If you want a stronger coconut flavor, add a few tablespoons of toasted shredded coconut to the blender along with the rest of the ingredients.
  3. Freezing your dole whip: To expedite the freezing process, place the cut pineapple and bananas in a single layer on a small sheet pan lined with parchment paper instead of using a large resealable bag. Since the fruit isn’t crowding the bag, it should only take an hour or two to freeze, as opposed to over four.
  4. Garnish: When toasting the coconut for garnish (or if adding it to the dole whip itself), sweetened coconut will brown faster than unsweetened. Therefore, make sure you always keep an eye on the coconut and stir frequently when toasting. There’s instructions for toasting coconut in the notes section of the recipe card below.

This Boozy Banana Dole Whip is an adult version of the famous Disney Dole Whip.  With the addition of bananas, brandy soaked grilled pineapples, coconut and booze, this Dole Whip is a tropical paradise for your taste buds!

Ingredients

  • 1 Medium Pineapple – peeled, cored and cut into ¾’’ rings
  • ½ Cup Brandy
  • 1 ½ Bananas – sliced into chunks
  • 2 TBS Irish Cream
  • ½ Lime – juiced (about 1 TBS)
  • 3 TBS Malibu Rum
  • 4 TBS Spiced Rum
  • Optional Toppings:
  • Whipped Cream
  • Maraschino Cherries
  • Shredded Coconut – toasted

Instructions

  • For the Pineapple: Lay pineapple rings in a glass baking dish and pour brandy over them. Toss to coat. Allow pineapple to soak in brandy for 15 minutes, turning over halfway through.
  • Lightly oil grates (or pan) with cooking spray and heat grill to medium high. Remove and drain pineapple and transfer to grill in a single layer (do this in batches if using a grill pan), reserving brandy. Cook 2 minutes, or until lightly browned and grill marks appear. Flip over and continue to cook an additional 2 minutes, brushing with reserved brandy. Transfer to a clean work surface and allow to cool.
  • Freeze: Once cool, cut pineapples into chunks. Transfer 4 cups of the pineapple* to a large Ziploc bag and add the slices of bananas. Seal and place in the freezer for 2-3 hours, or until frozen*.
  • Blend: Place frozen pineapples, bananas and remaining ingredients into a blender or food processor. Blend until creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides as necessary.
  • Serve: Transfer Boozy Banana Dole Whip directly into serving cups/bowls. Or, to a piping bag (or Ziploc with the corner snipped off) and squeeze, in a swirling motion, into serving cup or bowl. Top with optional garnishes and enjoy.

Notes

*Yield: 4 Cups
