Featured comment: Loved it! I used plain vodka instead of pumpkin spice vodka, and I used fresh pumpkin spice instead of nutmeg to garnish it. I also used the bourbon maple syrup I purchased. This was an AMAZING martini!” – Sheridan

Hi, friends! I hope you are thirsty, because today we are making Martini Monday a thing. I mean, why should tacos and Tuesdays have all the fun?!

About this pumpkin martini recipe

These pumpkin martinis, or pumpkin pie martinis as I like to call them, are the perfect fall adult beverage. Featuring real pumpkin puree, maple syrup and pumpkin spice, this martini recipe has all the flavors of your favorite pumpkin pie – it’s just served in a chilled martini glass! This boozy cocktail is smooth, creamy, sweet and rich with nuances of pumpkin and cinnamon. Essentially, it’s the dessert portion of Thanksgiving in a fancy glass – minus the hours of slaving away in a kitchen.

Confession: I have never been a fan of pumpkin pie. It’s a texture thing. But this pumpkin pie martini? I totally get down with and stand behind. No offense to the pie, but this pumpkin martini is just better. Just look at that graham cracker and cinnamon sugar coated rim. And the slight dusting of pumpkin spice and nutmeg. Plus, the stick of cinnamon acting as a natural stirring utensil. I swoon. Oh, and if you want to get all fancy with it, I suggest you add a huge dollop of whipped cream. Because life is made sweeter with decadent, airy-light whipped cream. Facts.

Whether you garnish your martini to the nines or sip on it plain, I know you’ll be enjoying this pumpkin spice martini recipe for many years to come!

What is a pumpkin pie martini?

A pumpkin martini, also known as a pumpkin pie martini, is the quintessential autumn adult beverage. Made with vodka, rum, pumpkin purée, maple syrup, and pumpkin spice, it’s a perfectly smooth and sip-able cocktail. With plenty of cozy fall flavors, a pumpkin martini will have you wishing it was fall all year long.

Pumpkin spice martinis are typically enjoyed for cocktail hour or as an after dinner drink or dessert.

Pumpkin martini ingredients

  • Vodka – I recommend pumpkin pie rum for the most mild gourd flavor.
    • Substitution: You can swap in regular vodka or flavored vodka, such as vanilla vodka or even cinnamon vodka!
  • Rum – A dark spiced rum pairs best with pumpkin.
    • Substitution: Try using pumpkin liqueur for even more gourd flavor.
  • Half-and-Half – For a touch of decadence.
    • Substitution: Feel free to use heavy cream for a richer mouthfeel or milk for a cocktail with a lighter body.
  • Pumpkin Puree – You’ll need a can of 100% pure pumpkin.
  • Maple Syrup – Pure maple syrup adds a beautiful touch of cozy sweetness. Make sure you use the real stuff and not the syrup made for pancakes.
  • Vanilla – Pure vanilla extract lends a welcoming flavor.
  • Pumpkin Pie Spice – Use store bought for convenience. Or make your own pumpkin spice by combining ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground nutmeg and ground cloves.

Variations: pumpkin cocktails

  • Irish Cream – Up the boozy ante by swapping out the half-and-half for Irish cream liqueur.
  • RumChata – My favorite way to add even more cozy flavor is to replace the half-and-half and rum with Rum Chata. It’s sweet and creamy in taste, similar to Bailey’s Irish Cream. However, it’s flavor is distinguished with notes of warming cinnamon. but distinguished by the cinnamon notes
  • Sweet pumpkin martini – If you prefer a sweeter martini, swap out the plain pumpkin puree for pumpkin pie filling, which includes both a sweetener and spices.
  • Chocolate pumpkin martini – Swap out the half-and-half for white chocolate or regular chocolate liqueur.

Tips for the best recipe for pumpkin martini

Follow the simple tips and tricks below to ensure your homemade martini is the ultimate!

  • Stir in cream. When mixing this martini together, add the half and half last. The fat from the half and half may bind to your ice cubes, causing the cream to separate. Because of this, I recommend shaking together the pumpkin spice martini, and then stirring or swirling in the cream into the cocktail mixture.
  • Make it to taste. Everyone’s tastebuds are different, so I highly recommend making your martini to your taste. Swap out ingredients, go wild with the pumpkin spice, get creative and make the alcoholic pumpkin drink of your dreams.
  • Strain for a smooth martini. For the smoothest pumpkin martini, I recommend straining the martini into your glass.
  • Decorate the rim before chilling the glass. Dip the rim in maple syrup then into the decorative graham cracker crumbs before chilling the glass.

Storing pumpkin spice martini

Unfortunately, this pumpkin martini does not store well; therefore, I recommend enjoying your cocktail immediately. However, if you need to store your drink, it will hold well for a couple hours in the refrigerator. Make sure you remove any ice before storing and shake the cocktail before serving.

So whether or not it’s Monday and you like or loath pumpkin pie, you need to shake together this pumpkin pie martini. The season calls for it and you, my friend, deserve it! 😉

Until next time, cheers!

*Disclosure:  I received free bottles of various flavored Vodka from my friends over at Pearl for my own personal tasting. I loved their new flavors of Vodka so much I freely chose to develop a drink with their Pumpkin Spice Vodka.

Equipment

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Martini Glass

Ingredients

Pumpkin Martini:

  • 3 Ice Cubes
  • 2 ounces Pumpkin Spice Vodka (substitution: regular or vanilla vodka)
  • 1 ounces Dark Rum (substitution: Rum Chata)
  • 2 TBS Pumpkin Puree (canned or homemade)
  • 1 ounces Maple Syrup
  • ¼ tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
  • Optional Pinch Pumpkin Pie Spice
  • ½ ounces Half and Half (substitution: Irish Cream)

Optional Rim:

Optional Martini Garnishes:

Instructions

  • Prepare the Martini Glass Rim: Crush graham cracker in a resealable bag, or food processor, until it resembles sand. Stir in the pumpkin spice, cinnamon and sugar. Dip the rim of a martini glass into maple syrup, then roll the rim in the graham cracker mix. Set the glass aside.
(Trick: I dip a thick napkin into the maple syrup and use the napkin to neatly apply the syrup to the rim of the glass.)
  • Prepare the Martini: In a cocktail shaker, combine the ice with the vodka, rum, pumpkin, maple syrup and vanilla, along with the pumpkin spice if using. Shake vigorously until shaker chilled to the touch. Add in the cream and swirl or stir to combine.
  • Serve: Strain and pour cocktail into the prepared martini glass. Garnish with cinnamon stick, dollop with whipped cream and sprinkle with pumpkin spice and/or nutmeg. Enjoy!
